Many microcement finishes look beautiful on the first day, but long-term performance depends on much more than the visible surface. Semiforêt was developed to create a more refined, reliable and system-based microcement finish for real homes and commercial spaces.
Microcement performance depends on more than the final visible layer. Substrate stability, moisture condition, application sequence, reinforcement, sanding control and sealer protection all affect the finished result.That is why Semiforêt is built around a standardized 15-step application system and a carefully selected material structure. Our goal is to reduce unnecessary risk for homeowners, designers and project teams by making the finish more consistent, more practical and more suitable for daily use.
The Story Behind Semiforêt Microcement
From Paint Industry Heritage to Microcement Innovation
Semiforêt founder Shirley Q grew up in a family involved in the custom painting and coatings industry, with experience serving international industrial clients across demanding applications.
Her perspective was shaped by both this industry background and her international education. After completing her undergraduate studies in New York City, she pursued a master’s degree in luxury management in France. Exposure to China, North America and Europe influenced her understanding of materials, interiors and the relationship between design and everyday living.
Why Semiforêt Was Created
In 2013, Shirley encountered microcement floors and walls for the first time and was immediately drawn to their seamless, architectural character.
But when she began searching for microcement for her own home, she struggled to find a product that matched what she wanted.
Some finishes felt too industrial. Others required careful maintenance and raised concerns about staining and long-term durability.
After searching across different markets without finding a satisfactory solution, she decided to develop a different approach.
Developing a Better Microcement Experience
Drawing on her family’s experience in the paint and coatings industry, global supply-chain capabilities, and technical collaboration with a co-founder from a German chemical company, Shirley began developing what would eventually become Semiforêt.
More than five years of research, development and iteration followed.
The goal was not simply to create another decorative coating, but to develop a microcement system that balanced three qualities:
