Project Overview

A quiet mineral surface brings architectural continuity to a practical public environment.

The Project Requirement

A public toilet surface is not selected by colour alone. Its performance begins with the condition beneath it.

Public toilet projects require coordination between the existing substrate, sanitary fittings, corners, junctions, wet-area details and the intended cleaning and maintenance routine.

For this Jurong Island laboratory project, the design direction called for a quiet, light-toned finish that would sit comfortably within a practical shared environment.

The Semiforêt Approach

Material, preparation and application were considered as one complete surface system.

Semiforêt followed its standard project workflow: reviewing the application area, assessing the working base, coordinating the required preparation, building the specified multi-layer microcement system and completing the protective finish.

Ivory White was selected to reduce visual heaviness and create a more continuous relationship between the surfaces and sanitary elements visible in the completed space.

The Completed Result

Ivory White creates a calm backdrop while preserving the subtle movement of a hand-applied mineral finish.

The completed toilet presents a restrained surface language suited to a commercial interior. It provides a local reference for clients evaluating microcement for shared washrooms, laboratories, workplaces and other public-facing wet areas.

Performance in a public toilet should always be considered as a complete system. Substrate condition, wet-area detailing, application quality, protective finish, curing and ongoing maintenance all influence the final result.

What This Project Demonstrates

01

A completed local reference for a Singapore commercial public toilet.

02

Ivory White can create a clean, understated appearance without relying on repeated tile patterns.

03

Commercial wet-area work requires project-specific substrate assessment, detailing and site coordination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Considering microcement for a public washroom?

Can microcement be used in a public toilet?

Yes, it may be used as part of an appropriately specified surface system. Suitability depends on the substrate, wet-area conditions, expected traffic, cleaning regime, detailing and protective finish.

Can it be applied over existing tiles?

Stable and properly bonded tiles may be assessed for overlay. Hollow tiles, significant cracks, movement or unresolved moisture conditions should be addressed before the final application method is confirmed.

Is the same system used for every commercial toilet?

No. The appropriate preparation, detailing and protective system should be confirmed for the actual substrate, traffic level, wet-area conditions and maintenance requirements.
